London : Mayhew & Co. ; Cramer, Addison & Beale ; Willis & Co. ; Balls & Son ; etc. Good copy in contemporary half black leather over blue marble boards, gilt blocked to the spine and corners, with a red leather label "M. S. Hill, 1849" gilt-blocked to the front board. Boards and spine somewhat scuffed and rubbed along the edges. Internally tight with a clean impression, having only some light creasing at the corners, and the faint foxing and offsetting expected of age. A well-preserved copy overall. Item #456436

Includes popular ballads and theatrical excerpts of the period, such as John Barnett, Harriet Mary Browne (sister of Felicia Hemans), and Pamela Fitzgerald. Representative works include Barnett's 'My father land' from the musical Monsieur Mallet, Browne's settings of Hemans's poems 'The treasures of the deep,' 'He never smiled again!' and Fitzgerald's 'I remember, I remember,' and several others.
